Lucille ‘Lucy’ Cooke Humphreys

Lucille “Lucy” Cooke Humphreys, age 94, formerly of Monticello, passed away in Covington on May 14, 2025, surrounded by family.

Lucy was born on May 31, 1930, in Norge, Va. to the late George Harris Cooke of Louisa Co, Virginia and Frances Williams Cooke of Troy, Kansas.

Lucy is a graduate of the College of William and Mary with a degree in marketing. She worked as a sportswear buyer in retail and later as a real estate agent. She was a homemaker during her children’s early years.

Mrs. Humphreys enjoyed volunteering. She proudly served as a volunteer for the Red Cross, serving those who suffered losses in the Southeast due to fires and tornadoes. Lucy also volunteered as a Hospital Pink Lady and assisted at the Retreat at Monticello hospital. She enjoyed quilting, golfing, gardening, spending time with family, nature, embroidery, and sewing.

In addition to her parents, Lucy is preceded by her brothers, Dwight Cooke, George Cooke III, and Milton Cooke; sisters, Frances Ward, Wanda Arend Wilson, Sarah Bryon, Nancy Sanders, and Rose Seay.

Mrs. Humphreys is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Stanley William Humphreys, son, Wayne (Glenda) Humphreys, daughter, Lois (Jim) Story, grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Story, Jamie Story, and Chris (Lynn) Story, great-grandson, Connor Story, and 22 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Monticello Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Corey Ingold officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Jordan Funeral Home.
