John Larry Slate

John Larry Slate, age 87, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025, at his residence.

John was born on July 11, 1937, in Russellville, Alabama along with his identical twin brother, Harry. Their parents were the late Ralph Ural Slate, Sr. and Lou Bernice Andrews Slate.

John grew up in Pensacola, Florida, where he attended school. After graduation from high school, he served in the Army and Air Force.

After serving in the military, John moved to Columbus, Georgia where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Columbus College.

John had a long and rewarding career in the business world, working many years in hospital administration until his retirement.

Before his health failed, John was an avid tennis player, golfer and pilot. He spent many hours flying his Cessna 150 and hanging out with the guys at the Monticello airport.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Slate, Jr. and Thomas Harry Slate.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kelley Slate of Monticello.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Prospect Methodist Church in Mansfield. Pastor Jason Thornton, Pastor Layne Jenkins and Pastor Charles Starr will officiate.

John has been a member of Prospect Methodist Church for twenty years and will be laid to rest in the church cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon at Prospect Methodist Church, 84 Barnes Mountain Road, Mansfield, Georgia 30055 with services to follow.
