Dismal Voter Turnout Leads To PSC Run-off

Only 3.45 percent of registered Jasper County voters cast a vote in the Public Service Commission race which culminated with voting last Tuesday, June 17.

Statewide, a runoff is required in the Democratic District 3 race where Keisha Sean Waites got 46.05 percent of the vote. She also led the ballot in Jasper County, garnering 37 votes to Robert Jones 7, and Peter Hubbard’s 13.

On the Republican ballot, incumbent District 2 Representative Tim Echols handily defeated challenger Lee Muns in Jasper County, 199 to 112 votes. Statewide, Mr. Echols got 75.76 percent of the vote.

A run-off for the Democratic ticket will be held Tuesday, July 15, with early voting the week before, July 7-11.
