Whisker Warriors Celebrates 100th TNR
The Jasper County Humane Society is proud to celebrate a major milestone achieved by its feline initiative, Whisker Warriors: over 100 cats successfully Trap-Neuter-Returned (TNR) in its mission to humanely manage the local stray and feral cat population.
Led by dedicated animal advocate Kristy Cash-Stephens, Whisker Warriors officially partnered with the Humane Society earlier this year to expand humane efforts across Jasper County. The team has worked tirelessly to trap, spay or neuter, vaccinate, and return cats to their original territories. This proven method breaks the breeding cycle and helps stabilize colony populations over time.
Kristy credits her daughter, Baleigh—who assists during school breaks—as her “right hand.” Together with volunteers, donors, and community support, Whisker Warriors has achieved the following:
●Spayed or neutered 116 cats (53 females and 63 males)
●Served 25 locations throughout the county
●Adopted out or transferred 11 cats to verified rescues
●Feeds and monitors approximately 130 feral cats daily
●Currently fosters 19 kittens and two nursing mothers
The 100-TNR milestone comes amid kitten season, when reproduction peaks. Without intervention, a single unspayed female cat and her offspring can result in more than 50 cats in just 16 months. Left unchecked, this cycle leads to illness, starvation, and overcrowded shelters.
Whisker Warriors and the Jasper County Humane Society currently operate without a physical facility, relying entirely on volunteer foster homes and are now at full capacity due to the seasonal influx of kittens.
Here’s how you can help:
●Spay and neuter your pets early (8–10 weeks is ideal)
●Never abandon cats outdoors
●Report feral colonies for TNR assistance
●Foster, adopt, or volunteer to support this life-saving work
●Donate: This community-wide initiative is funded solely through private donations. All contributions are tax-deductible and essential for the program’s continued success.
