Jasper Health Services Earns Award

Jasper Health Services, Inc. was named East Central Region Work Based Learning(WBL)/Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP) Business Partner of the Year at the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education (GACTE) Conference last week for its participation in and support of the WBL/YAP Program at Jasper County High School (JCHS).

The award was presented by Ms. Laura Boswell, the Georgia Program Specialist for WBL/YAP.

Jasper Memorial Hospital and Jasper Health Services, Inc. (JHS) were nominated by Mrs. Johnnie Sue Moore, WBL Coordinator at JCHS. In her nomination letter, Mrs. Moore said “The folks at our local hospital truly represent what it means to be a business partner. In the last five years, the administrators have stepped up to help out the students of JCHS.”

Mrs. Moore continued by saying “When I became the WBL/YAP Coordinator, I reached out to the administrator about getting a student placed in the business office for an hour each day to help with filing and answering the phone.

“That young lady is still working part-time at the doctor’s office that is attached to the hospital. JHS is always willing to take a chance to give our students the experience of working in and around the medical field and we are so appreciative.”

In addition, the hospital has always been happy to send employees to speak to the Healthcare Science classes to offer feedback as to what needs to be taught in the classroom and what equipment is needed. JHS is also willing to donate equipment and supplies and works diligently to interview students for jobs the hospital may have open at the time.

“I have been able to place students everywhere at the hospital—not only as Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs), but also in the departments of maintenance, food services, and business office. The hospital has a need for many of our pathway completers at JCHS, and the JHS staff has never hesitated to find a place for our students,” Mrs. Moore said.

The nomination for this award was also supported by Jorden Reed, a 2024 graduate of JCHS, who worked as a CNA at Jasper Memorial Hospital in high school and after. In her support letter, Ms. Reed said, “Over the course of my time working as a CNA in this facility, I had the privilege of developing strong professional relationships with numerous individuals and organizations. Working in this community has given me invaluable experience in team collaboration and problem-solving. It has enhanced my commitment to creating an atmosphere where compassionate, high-quality care is not only provided but also celebrated.”

Robert Cumbie, Chief Executive Officer for JHS, Inc., was on hand to receive the award at the GACTE Conference along with Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Mary Tumlin, Director of Career, Technical & Agricultural Education (CTAE) for Jasper County Charter System.
