County Adopts School Millage

The Jasper County Commission met briefly for a called meeting Tuesday evening to adopt the school’s millage rate, so that tax bills can be prepared. The tax commissioner wanted the documents ready by Tuesday to assure bills are printed in time.
Commissioner Bruce Henry made the motion to adopt Resolution #2023.07.18 authorizing the Jasper County Tax Commissioner to levy a Jasper County Board of Education Millage Rate of 14.010 for the 2023 Tax Billing.. Commissioner Steven Ledford seconded the motion, and it passed 4-0.
Currently there are only four members of the Board of Commissioners, as District 4 Commissioner Gerald Stunkel resigned last month. A special election will be held September 19.
Tax bills are due in two installments—the first one October 20, and the second one December 20.
The commissioners regular meeting date is the first Monday in each month at 6 p.m. There is a work session on capital improvements scheduled for Friday, July 28.
