Hurricane Cedrion Stone Racks Up Football Honors
Cedrion Stone, Monticello Hurricanes Senior Defensive Lineman, had a busy Christmas break. While most students were off for the holidays, Cedrion was putting in work as a starter for the Senior National Team at the Georgia Elite Classic held in Rome at the Historic Barron Stadium on December 29.
The Georgia Elite Classic is an All-Star series that is now in its 10th year. It features a game between two teams of eighth grade All-Stars, a ninth versus tenth grade game, and a junior and senior game. Team members are nominated by their coaches, and selected by a panel in order to participate.
Cedrion started the game for the National Team, and recorded an assisted tackle statistically during the game.
During the Christmas holiday season is also the traditional time for publication of All-Star teams from various media outlets around the state. Not only was Cedrion honored with his selection as Region 5A-Division 1 Defensive Player of the Year, but he was also selected to the 1st Team of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution yearly All-State Team.
The AJC All-State team has been selected by writers of the flagship newspaper of the state since 1949. In doing so, Cedrion became the first 1st team All-State selection since Odell Thurman after the 2000 season.
Finally, Cedrion was also selected by the Recruit Georgia website staff to their All-State team as a 1st Teamer. For the season, Cedrion tallied 98 total tackles (67 solo, 31 assisted), 13 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
Coach Henderson has the following to say about his star senior. “You can’t really put into words the leadership Ced brought to the table. Everything we asked the guys to do—he never flinched. He led by example all year. He was super productive on both sides of the ball, and we’re excited to see what his future holds.”
Congratulations Cedrion Stone on a job well done!
