Locals Join Hands To Help

Jody Mobley of Cleveland, Ga. didn’t really know where to turn when her father’s home in Monticello needed major repairs, and he had no funds for the repairs.

She then googled Jasper County help and that led her to the Jasper County Care Corps, a volunteer organization that helps residents and those passing through, when possible. A couple decades ago, the Care Corps was the agent for the annual Octoberblitz during which volunteers repaired homes of elderly and needy at no cost. That has fallen by the wayside as the organizers moved away, and no one picked up the slack.

So when Sandra Carter who works with the Care Corps learned of the local need, she wasn’t sure where to turn. So, she put out a plea on social media, Facebook.

A member of Monticello Baptist Church saw the post, she was aware of a local ministry that might be just the group to help. She contacted Justin and Amanda Hudgins with the Be Jesus ministry who responded immediately.

They went to the home of John Mobley on Hwy. 83 south of Monticello the same day they learned of the need. They assessed the situation, and contacted Justin and William Sorrows of Bonafide Roofing in Monticello and Braselton.

The Sorrows’ agreed to do the job for the cost of materials, which were covered by Monticello Baptist Church. They spent a day tearing off old shingles, replacing decking, putting on new shingles, and doing repairs inside where the leakage had caused problems.

Last week, everyone in the county who was instrumental in taking care of Mr. Mobley got together for a prayer and a photo.

Ms. Carter shared a little bit about the history of the Care Corps, and told how she connected everyone.

Along with the Hudgins, Chris Beaucher of the Be Jesus ministry was on hand. David Artessa, pastor of Monticello Baptist Church, was also on hand and led the group in prayer.

Mr. Mobley, who has lived in Jasper County for more than two decades was grateful for the help. Living on a small social security check, he didn’t know what he was going to do.

His daughter Jody, and his other daughter, Marsha Kelfer, are likely as happy as Mr. Mobley is, knowing their father’s home is repaired, dry and warm.
