Food Bank Seeks Produce
The Jasper County Community Food Bank is looking for help from local farmers and gardeners.
The source of their fresh produce recently dried up, and the Food Bank would like to continue to offer the fresh food to its clients. Therefore, Food Bank directors are asking area farmers if they can help. The Food Bank would love any donated food, but also has means to buy produce.
The Food Bank is open each Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone who can help is asked to contact Ken Horton at 706-476-1097. The Food Bank may be reached at 706-468-6076.
The Food Bank is currently located on Post Road, but the county has received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to build a new facility but a new location has not been determined.
Anyone who may have five to seven acres within five miles of Monticello who would be willing to sell is also asked to contact Mr. Horton.
The Jasper County Community Food Bank is 100 percent volunteer operated, with no paid staff. Volunteers are always appreciated, so anyone who is interested should contact Mr. Horton. There are several needs.
