Brenda Jacobs Takes Helm at Senior Center

The Jasper County Senior Center has a new director behind the desk, Brenda Jacobs. The director has an abundance of new things in her life recently…husband, home, job, and friends.

Mrs. Jacobs is wife to St. James A.M.E Church Pastor Reginald Jacobs. The newlyweds were married in April 2021 and with that came a relocation for her from Georgetown, S.C. Being a new wife doesn’t nearly begin to encompass all that she is. Married to a minister, she is an ordained minister herself with 37 years attributed to that title. She has pastored for seven of those years but currently does not.

“Church is what I do,” she said gleefully. Though she admits sometimes now she is still acquainting herself with the title of “First Lady” when called upon on Sundays at St. James.

In addition to being a minister and a wife of a pastor, Brenda is a proud mother of four and an even prouder grandmother of two.

This Monday marked two weeks on the job at the Senior Center for Brenda and she couldn’t be happier.

“This is the best job I have had in my life,” she said beaming a huge smile. “Monticello has been welcoming. I like it here, the center is a well-oiled machine.”

Brenda brings a wealth of knowledge and resources to the directors position. She has been working with the elderly population since 2005 in various facets .

When she heard about the job opening, she knew instantly that she was interested. Brenda was not seeking just a job but a place to share her passion and the senior center was it. She had a dream before the application process began and she shared it with me. In the dream, Brenda was in a house with a lot of elderly people who were buzzing about. She was wearing a white coat.

As the persons were leaving the building they would wave to her and say “see you tomorrow.” Now if that doesn’t sound like the Senior Center I don’t know what does.

The Lord was sending her a sign, one she didn’t quite catch until her second call back interview for the director’s job.

Brenda has plans for the center that include “strengthening the cords” of the facility. By that, she would like to develop more partnerships at that support every area of the participants well-being from mental health to wellness. No doubt, she will get it done!

When asked what has been most memorable about her position thus far, Brenda said all the love she has received since the first day and especially on Boss’ Day.
