Nutrition

Our bodies are built up and maintained from the food we eat. Daily there is a breaking down of the tissues of the body, and the components to restore this breaking down of tissues are obtained from our food.

In this sense our body can be likened to a house in need of repairs. One may use building materials of a superior or inferior quality, likewise we may choose foods which contain either superior or inferior nutrition. It is the scope of knowledge of the person repairing the house that will determine what the end result will be.

In like manner, the scope of knowledge of our body’s nutritional needs, and the best foods to answer that need, will greatly influence if we thrive in the residence of health, or live in the hovel of disease.

Would it be wise to repair a load bearing wall with bales of hay? Would it be prudent to repair cracks in the foundation with plumbers putty? Is it wise or prudent to habitually substitute whole foods full of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, for processed foods stripped of their nutritional value and dressed up with sugar, additives, and artificial flavors?

We could also liken our body to a large family made up of many different members; adults, children, and babies, which daily must be fed according to their need. Just the same every organ of the body requires its share of nutrition. All the vital organs must be supplied with their portion; the bones, muscles, and nerves demand theirs.

The process of digestion that converts the food we eat into the nutritional components which the blood carries to every tissue and cell of the body is marvelous to study and contemplate. If we make it a point to seek an education in these lines, we will find stimulus that motivates our enthusiasm to make a change for the better.

And yet there is a dilemma that awaits those who embark on the journey to discover what are the best foods to maintain and promote health. You will find a directory of information on diet that spans the alphabet from Atkins to Zen, that seems more like a maze of confusion than a path to clarity.

However if we begin from the understanding that the mechanics of the human body has a Designer and is not the result of random chance, we can simply look to the Designer for direction. The same Bible that teaches that God designed the human body, also outlines the optimal diet for the maintenance of that body.

“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed…and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed…and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.” (Genesis 1:29; 3:18). When all things were made new God gave us what He knew was best; fruit, nuts, seeds, grains, and vegetables.

When we decide to make a NEW START we will discover that food which was best for us from the first, provides the best nutrition for us who have come last. Ponder this thought.
