Mack Brady Caddies for Big Names in Golf, Football

MACK BRADY (L), NICK PRICE

As an avid golfer himself Monticello native Mack Brady had a recent opportunity which was simply too good to pass up.

Brady had the chance to work as the caddie for professional golfer Nick Price during the Coca-Cola & Southern Company Pro-Am held at Capital City Club in Brookhaven.

“The caddie company that I currently work for at Reynolds Lake Oconee offered the opportunity,” Brady said. “Capital City Club reached out to my boss at Reynolds asking for caddies for the Pro-Am because currently there is no caddie program at Capital City Club.”

Brady said his first impression of Price was that perhaps the 62-year-old game has regressed from his prime in the 1990s.

“However, when he got it to the first tee and hit a towering 285-yard drive then I realized how his game in fact hasn’t changed much through the years,” said Brady. “It was amazing to watch him interact with the spectators and myself as he was so genuine in every moment of the day and would take time to talk to complete strangers.”

The experience also afforded Brady a chance to gain valuable golf advice from a known professional.

“One of the pieces of advice he gave me was about putting,” Brady said.

“He talked about some of the key routines he used in the 1990s that eventually led to him reaching the pinnacle of the golf world as the number one ranked player. The routine dealt with the putter head being set in front of the golf ball before the putt in order to visualize where he wanted the putter head to be after the stroke. I actually tried this method the next day and it seemed to work very well and I definitely understand now why he had so much success with it.”

Price was one of the top professional golfers in the world in the 1990s winning two PGA Championships and one Open Championship. In the mid-90s Price was ranked first in the world in the Official Golf World Ranking. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003. Overall he has won approximately 50 championships.

Brady, a 2017 graduate of Piedmont Academy, is currently at the University of Georgia majoring in sports management and minoring in finance. During the summer he plays golf four or five times each week although with the start of the fall semester at UGA he has had to cut back.

A standout in several high school sports Brady also recently had the opportunity recently to caddie for UGA football coach Kirby Smart. That event took place at the Chick-fil-A Coaches Classic at Reynolds. The event was a fund raiser for favorite charities of the coaches.

“Coach Smart is almost exactly what you see on TV every Saturday,” Brady said. “He was super energetic and super competitive with the occasional joke here and there about rival head coaches. It was an unforgettable and once-in-a-lifetime experience growing up as a huge fan of the Georgia football team and UGA athletics.”

Mack is the son of Scott and Traci Brady of Monticello. His brother Owen and sister Harris are current students at Piedmont Academy.
