Getting To Know Carnethia

Carnethia Pennamon, often referred to by her middle moniker Dieone, has a face and a name most will recognize though she often keeps a low profile.
The millenial is employed by the City of Monticello as the staff accountant and utility & billing clerk. The Monticello native graduated from Jasper County High School before heading to Albany State University where she earned an accounting degree in 2014.
When asked how deciding on a “career with numbers” came about, she explained that it began in high school while taking a business class under the direction of another native Monticelloan, Amy Scroggs. From that inspirational beginning, Carnethia envisions herself as a business analyst someday.
Carnethia is the daughter of Carl and Valerie Pennamon of Monticello and the mother to Chandler Andrew, the four year old love of her life. Many know her father as a longtime local politician and her mother as well-trained chef and given that there are two things she surprisingly has no real passion for—politics and cooking.
The accountant describes herself as a “fun, independent individual who likes to empower others.” When she is not working, Carnethia enjoys brunching with her friends, working out, and coaching Chandler’s wee ball team. Coaching wee ball feels natural, she said, as it reminds her of the glory days of playing softball as a Lady Hurricane.
Crafting is a big part of her down time as well. Whether its designing tee shirts, doing home decor projects, or repurposing furniture pieces, she is all in. She spoke very proudly of recently redoing her bedroom dresser by attaching a mirror to the base piece.
The St. James A.M.E. Church member, who works with the local church’s Youth Department, noted that she is coming to terms with who she is as a Christian.
“I have realized that God creates you on purpose to fulfill a purpose so I am finding my purpose in life.”
Lately, most of her reading material has been Christian-centered. When not reading the Bible she is currently in the midst of reading “Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Meyer and is thoroughly appreciating it.
The two people in history, dead or alive, she would most like to meet include former First Lady Michelle Obama and her late grandmother Daisy Mae Clemons. Meeting her grandmother as an adult is something she would very much like to do as an adult because losing her as a child didn’t give her an opportunity to really know her grandmother.
What Carnethia would most like readers to know and understand about her is that she is “more than what I seem to be.” With her laid back persona, she admits to having a big heart and doesn’t mind helping others when she can.
