‘What Gear Are You In?’

Exodus 14:15

“Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on’.” (NIV)

Anyone with a vehicle with an automatic transmission, you will see the following: P, R, N, D.

Even those of you who have been utterly frustrated by the slow moving tractor that holds up traffic in the late evening when you’re trying to get to Covington or Milledgeville has the same gear options. But it seems like they are almost in Neutral!!

Each one has a very specific meaning. When you are in park, you are going nowhere. The engine can be running, lights can be on, and all facilities working great, but if you are in park the vehicle will not move.

Reverse takes the vehicle in only one direction, and that’s backwards.

Neutral doesn’t mean the car or truck is in park, so it gives the vehicle limited mobility. If you want to push the car but it won’t start, you can shift it to neutral let it roll. Then there’s drive. Drive allows the vehicle to go one way, and that’s forward, at speeds determined by the press of the gas pedal.

That’s really simple, but maybe you are in various gears depending on your situation(s). Someone reading this is in park with your engine running and your mind in an idle place. Your energy is lacking and you don’t feel like you’ve accomplished much. But this too can change!

My encouragement to you is this, no matter what comes your way, STAY IN DRIVE. Here’s your motto: “Forward Forever, Backwards Never!”

There is a reason that the windshield is larger than the rearview mirror. Car manufacturers never intended for drivers to constantly look in the rear view mirror in order to make it safely to their destination. So if that’s the case, then why search in your past for what God has placed in your future? The rear view mirror is for temporary viewing to see what’s behind you.

Stay in drive, but even in drive, we must maintain control of our speed. Trying to get somewhere too fast is never safe. The brake pedal is extremely necessary. Know when to apply the brakes so that you can hear from God and be poured into. What gear are you in?

PRAYER OF THE DAY:

“Dear Lord, I want to progress and mature. I refuse to be stagnant, stale, or stuck. I am moving forward. If I need a boost, please push me in the right direction. I am shifting from reverse to drive in every area of my life, beginning right now!

In Jesus’ Name…Amen!”
