Tibia Williams—Relatable & Reliable
Tibia Williams is a Monticello native through and through. Born here, raised here, and educated here, home is still where her heart is.
The 1993 graduate of Jasper County High School works as a thriving independent insurance agent with Walker Insurance from the offices at Sovereign Risk on the Square. She is the mother of two—Chelsee her 24 year old daughter who works alongside her assisting with the insurance business and Kaleigh her 14 year old niece who she has been raising since the primary years.
Tibia loves her career and has been at it quite awhile. She began in the insurance business as an agent with State Farm for 12 years working right here in Monticello.
“Insurance is my passion because I get to aid people,” she said. “I like helping people. I think I am relatable whether I am talking to the governor or the homeless.”
Life and loftier pursuits took her away from home but like a boomerang she found her way back which is due in large part to her love for her family that has loved and supported her through all things good and bad.
At some point in her career Tibia contemplated “doing something different” and “having a backup plan” and not just being content with her associates’ degree in business management, so she enrolled in Mercer University.
In 2017, she graduated from Mercer at the top of her class with a Bachelor of Applied Science at age 44. Earning that degree she said was one of the proudest moments of her life and having her family there to celebrate made it all the more special. She said it saddened her though that her beloved grandparents were not alive to witness it because they always emphasized education to her as a youth.
2017 brought her a great high but also a great low; she lost her brother and father of Kaleigh, Kytrone, in a fatal vehicle accident. She had endured the death of her father, Hollis, but losing her brother she admits hurt her to the core.
Tibia describes herself as “fun loving” and the “life of the party,” while also taking credit for having a sensitive side while not wearing her emotions on her sleeve all the time. Chelsee describes her mom as open-minded and sometimes too forgiving.
So when Tibia is not conjuring up Insurance quotes and helping her customers with various other tasks, she likes to plan events everything from baby showers to weddings. She has assisted with funeral arrangements and resume creations but admits there is nothing like organizing a wedding. She admits that it may be because she is always rooting for love as a romantic at heart.
So when you’re out and about on the Square just stroll by Tibia’s office front and give her a big smile and a wave and it’s guaranteed to come back to you.
