Mackenzie Tripp Chosen to Travel With America’s Team to Spain

Mackenzie Tripp, a Jasper County High School senior, has been selected to compete with America’s Team traveling to Spain, this July 15-23.

Her team is scheduled to compete in a series of softball games and youth camps in Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona. These games and camps are designed to promote and enhance the sport, and promote goodwill between American and foreign student-athletes.

America’s Team provides student-athletes with high integrity and strong character opportunities to compete in international programs as an ambassador for their school, community, and our country. The program is dedicated to competition and experiences that will strengthen not only their athletic ambitions, but open their eyes to a new people and culture. Thus, making a positive impact on young lives by showing them the world through athletic competition.

Mackenzie is a member of the Hurricane varsity softball team and helped her squad to back-to-back appearances in the Elite Eight state playoffs in 2017 & 2018. As a Lady Cane this season, she has a .382 batting average, three home runs, 19 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases, according to Lady Hurricane Head Coach Chris Jenkins.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for Mackenzie, but she is more than deserving,” remarked Coach Jenkins. “She’s a straight A student, great athlete & competitor, and a high character young lady—the type of kid that you would want your daughter to grow up to be like.”

“They (America’s Team) were looking for softball players that would be great ambassadors, and I don’t think they could’ve picked a better one. Only 16 girls will be making the trip, so to be selected is a tremendous honor and we’re extremely excited for her.”

To participate in this event and maintain compliance with NCAA and NAIA eligibility requirements, Mackenzie must raise her portion of the travel expenses incurred by the team. Donations and financial assistance is greatly valued and appreciated and can be made at Ameris Bank, or by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/mackenzie-tripp-softball-in-spain.

(There are no fees associated with the Ameris Bank donation,a nd can be done locally. Go Fund Me takes a portion of proceeds raised.)

Mackenzie also plays varsity basketball and soccer. She was voted Senior Class President and also voted Miss Hurricane 2018 by her peers.
