MKR Donation Will Help Child

MKR DONATES FUNDS TO ASHLEY HEGWOOD TO HELP WITH SICK DAUGHTER, REMI

Little Remi Hegwood may be home for Thanksgiving. What exciting news.

(Update: Remi did make it home for Thanksgiving.)

Two weeks ago we featured Remi in this space as she was fighting for her life. She entered Children’s hospital of Atlanta/Egleston, was diagnosed with leukemia, and supposed to get chemotherapy and get better. She developed infections, and had many problems. Her mother has posted their journey on Facebook.

The weekend before last, Monticello Kart Racing had a race planned, and determined to raise funds for this family at that race. Indeed, they did, and they presented the check and flowers to Remi’s mom, Ashley Hegwood this week. Making the presentation were (left to right) Terry McMichael, Haley Hicks, Faye Pope, and Cory McMichael.

I asked Ashley for an update, and she turned that over to her mom who gave us the last update. Here’s what Remi’s grandmother, Lisa Simmons, had to say:

“November 5th was considered Remi’s last day of Induction process chemo therapy. This was a process that was to last 29 days but only have to spend two weeks in the hospital. As of today November 19, 2018 Remi has been in the hospital 44 days.

“During that time she has spent 19 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and 25 days on the Aflac floor. On November 17th she was moved back to the Aflac floor. Good news, though we are hoping by Thursday, Nov. 22nd Thanksgiving day we will be home. The only thing they have to do is one last lumbar puncture, take out the pic line and insert a port. This should all happen Tuesday or Wednesday then home.

“We would like to thank all the people of Monticello who prayed and shared our post and asked for prayers for a child they didn’t know but loved her enough to pray. This is one more reason I love living in Monticello. I want to personally thank the Monticello Baptist Church, Nancy Mitchell and David Artessa for being there when we needed them. Also for our close friends that are like family to us Katie and Bobbie Parks. They are a big reason why Remi is alive today.

“Thank everyone that prayed for Remi. She couldn’t have done it without your prayers. A special thanks goes out to Monticello Kart Racing/ MKR. Cory Michael has been a shining light in our lives when we have been in a very dark place dealing with Remi and all that has happened to her. Cory, Haley and all that helped with the MKR Race for Remi, came to visit, participated in the fundraiser event and has help our family we thank you again for everything. Life is good in Monticello.”
