Chris Pennamon Gets Football Scholarship

Jasper County High School senior Chris Pennamon accepted a scholarship to play football at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri.
He has played varsity football for three years including two years at Duluth High School in Gwinnett County and his senior year in Monticello.
“He’s been playing football since he was four years old,” noted his father, the elder Chris Pennamon, and first-year varsity Hurricane head basketball coach.
The proud papa continued, “He has been a starter on every football team he has played on since he was four.”
The elder Pennamon, a native Monticelloan, said that when he accepted the job at JCHS last Spring, his son had no reservations about changing schools leading into his senior year. “If that’s where you are going, that’s where I am going too,” is what the young athlete responded to his dad’s inquiry about where he would finish out his high school career.
Chris’ football statistics include 30 “pancake” blocks between his junior and senior season. He played quarterback, tight end and long snapper on varsity as a sophomore as well as center and long snapper as a junior, all at Duluth High School. Then he played offensive tackle, center and long snapper as a Hurricane senior.
Chris was also the center on the Hurricane basketball team, led by his dad, this season that continued its consecutive post regular season run into the state playoffs. He was a factor when injuries and absences plaqued the team.
The football signee also competed with varsity track for two years, a year each at DHS and JCHS, as a discus thrower.

Chris is the nephew of former Hurricane football standout Reginald Goolsby, who played Division 1 football at Furman University; grandson of retired Jasper County educator Deborah Goolsby; and the great-nephew of County Commission Chairman Carl Pennamon.
