Charlie Todd Is New Ag Agent
Monticello meet Charlie Todd, Jasper County’s newest Agriculture Agent.
With exactly one week on the job, he is excited about being here and is ready serve with all of Jasper’s agricultural/wildlife needs.
“I am ready to bring my knowledge of wildlife and forestry to the community…to help anyway I can,” said the recent graduate of the University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forestry. Having heard that Jasper County has a huge hog population, he is looking to aid landowners anyway he can.
Charlie, a Newnan native, attended UGA earning his undergraduate degree in Fisheries & Wildllife Sciences and his master’s in Wildlife Sciences.
When asked why he chose a career in agriculture, Charlie explained that since childhood he has always loved being outside in the woods and exploring nature. The young graduate noted that when he was considering college his father advised him that he should do something he loves. So wildlife it was for Charlie.
Upon graduation, he began searching for possible jobs on the UGA website when he came across the listing here. Former agent Trey Gafnea left the post for a job in Athens. Having interviewed with four other counties and received offers of employment, Charlie decided to try his luck here. He liked the area and its proximity to friends and familar faces in Athens and his parents and family in Newnan. Plus he appreciates the hometown feel of the area.
“The people are very friendly. I am here to help the people but I am finding that the people here are also helping me settle in. Everyone has been very hospitable.”
Charlie and his chocolate labrador retriever, officially named Big Georgia Rue but called “G,” have made their home in Shady Dale. He isn’t used to the idea of leaving G at home for hours upon end yet and thinks he may bring his mindful and trusted companion into the city with him on some days. He explained that G has an interesting pedigree that includes a decorative New Orleans bloodline.
So guess what Charlie likes to do in his spare time away from work and school? Hunting, fishing and land management…all things associated with his line of work. He also trains dogs, mostly labs, for waterfowl hunting.
For someone that lives and breathes agriculture, he does have an increasing passion for riding motorcycles. Charlie says thoughts about buying a Kawasaki having frequently crossed his mind lately. His dad owns a Harley Davidson and when his dad is feeling generous, Charlie says he gets to take it out for a spin.
Charlie has an office in the Extension Service building located at 162 North Warren Street in Monticello. So stop by and give him a welcoming hello or call him with any of your wildlife questions at 70-468-6479.
