Monticello Presbyterian Welcomes Interim Pastor

REV K.L. PARCHEM

Monticello Presbyterian Church welcomes the Rev. Kathi Lindsey Parchem to the pulpit as a new Interim Pastor. The excitement was evident as the congregation gathered October 15 to celebrate Pastor Parchem’s first day as well as the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans.

Rev. Parchem, a life-long Presbyterian and a native Georgian, has served Presbyterian churches throughout Georgia for more than 30 years. Before coming to Monticello, she was pastor of the Fort Frederica Presbyterian Church on St. Simons Island. She has also served in Columbus, Statesboro, Hinesville, and Swainsboro.

On October 5, she was elected to serve as the 2019 Moderator of the Synod of the South Atlantic, a region that covers Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina and is made up of 860 churches. Previously she served as the moderator of the Savannah Presbytery, a district composed of 40 churches.

Rev. Parchem is known for having served many community organizations as well. She has been actively involved in adult literacy, worked furthering the development of the Court Appointed Special Advocates [CASA] programs, and the development of programs to serve Metro-Atlanta’s homeless women with children.

When asked what drew her to Monticello Presbyterian Church, she is quick to reply, “I sense so much joy among the people here. This church has vitality to it with ministry happening on many levels. Members care about one another and also about our entire community.”

Some of the ministries that Rev. Parchem is referring to are the support of the new residential foster home for boys, Never Too Late; the Mercy, Love, and Joy (ML&J) program that works with the schools and community to assist families; and also mission trips to a variety of areas to serve others.

Monticello Presbyterian Church was founded in 1829 and has grown as a part of the local community. It is located at 246 East Washington Street. More information may be found at www.monticellopres.org.
