Little Free Pantry Offers Necessities

If you have been by Monticello Presbyterian Church recently, you may have seen something that looks like an oversized birdhouse in the upper parking lot. It’s actually a Little Free Pantry.

A Little Free Pantry is a small structure that contains nonperishable foods, personal care items, and other things that homeless or other food insecure people can take whenever they need. The Little Free Pantry is open 24 hours a day. It’s based on the familiar concept of the Little Free Library, which you may have encountered at Jasper County High School, on Clay Road, or in other communities.

Monticello Presbyterian Church’s Little Free Pantry is a stopgap measure for people who don’t have access to the Jasper County Community Food Bank. Some might not have transportation to the food bank. Also, did you know that homeless people can’t use the food bank? That’s because an address must be provided to receive its services.

Monticello Presbyterian Church hopes that the Little Free Pantry will help our neighbors who are in greatest need.

The Little Free Pantry contains nonperishable, nutritious foods like peanut butter, crackers, granola bars, canned meats, and canned fruits. Pull-tab cans are particularly appreciated because recipients might not have a can opener available. Other Little Free Pantry contents might include toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, or other personal care items.

Give what you can. Take what you need. May God bless you!
