PA Elizabeth Wood Joins PCC Staff
Bright, bubbly, and knowledgeable are three adjectives that I would use to describe Elizabeth Copelan Wood, one of the newest additions to the Primary Care Center (PCC) medical staff. Mrs. Wood is the latest physician’s assistant (PA), personnel trained and licensed to provide medical services under the supervision of a physician, added to the roster.
I met the high-spirited PA she was clicking her heels, and I do mean her high-heels, around Jasper Memorial Hospital actively checking on patients. Throughout our visit she never shed her smile—not while eating lunch or battling the wind outside—a trait patients will find very comforting.
Mrs. Wood, the newly-wed wife of Town & Country manager, Nathan, is a native of Forsyth just down Hwy. 83. She is a graduate of Mary Persons High School and Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. She earned her PA credentials from South University in Savannah. Now in her sixth year as a practicing PA, Elizabeth took a job in Hardeville, S.C after finishing PA School.
It’s been just over a month since she began at PCC and says it feels like home.
“So far it’s been great—the hospital, PCC, and the Retreat. I feel like I fit in here,” said the new PA. “Monticello feels like home—real familiar.”
Elizabeth decided on a career as a PA after shadowing a medical professional in that field as a undergraduate student at GC&SU.
“I wanted to help people while serving within the community. I knew I didn’t want to be a doctor and while following a PA in Milledgeville I discovered I loved what she was doing.”
When asked what one thing she would communicate to Jasper County residents about herself, Elizabeth noted that she is here to serve.
“I’m just here to help and listen and to grow patient comfort levels. I’ve got a lot of energy, spunk and can give good motivation to those needing it.”
When she is not working as a PA, Elizabeth enjoys spending time traveling, enjoying music and sporting events. She and her husband, who is also a Mary Persons High School graduate, recently celebrated their first anniversary with a trip to Chateau Elon. The couple also spend much time showering their black labrador, Herschel, with much love.
