Kiwanis Again Sponsors Venison Cook-off

The Deer Festival’s Venison Cook Off, is produced by the Monticello Kiwanis Club and is open to anyone who enjoys cooking, it is sponsored by our home town pharmacy, Monticello Drugs.

Plates are sold for a donation of $10, and festival goers can sample any and all of the entries. The cook off is celebrating its 15th year and has become a one of the festival’s main attractions.

Anyone can enter the contest in one or in all three categories which are BBQ, Chili/Stew, and Open. The open and chili class do not have to be cooked on site but the BBQ class does. Judging is done by the Kiwanis Club and points are scored 1-10 for set-up, appearance of the cook and organization; presentation of the food to be judged; aroma; texture and taste.

First place blue and second place red ribbons are awarded in each class. $100 is awarded for first place in each category. There’s nothing like having a blue ribbon in your kitchen or cook shack to brag on as well as having a chance to participate and meet cooks from far and near enjoying an early November day outdoors.

It’s a great family outing and a chance to help the Kiwanis Club raise money for charity, what could be better. To enter just show up the day of the Deer Festival in the parking lot on the corner of West Washington and Forsyth Street or you can call the Kiwanis Club at 404-314-1964 for more information.

Judging begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at noon. When your dish is ready it will be judged. The Monticello Kiwanis Club wishes everyone good luck and may the best cook win.
