Seuss On The Loose Set March 7

Seuss On The Loose, the annual literacy festival/fund raiser for Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy in Jasper County will be held Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at Jasper County High School, 14477 Hwy. 11 North, Monticello.

Ferst Foundation mails an age-appropriate book to all children from birth to five years old who are registered. The festival raises money to fund the books. It takes $32 per year to cover the cost of mailing a high-quality book monthly to registered children.

Supporters making a $32 donation will receive a t-shirt. Donations may be made now at the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce, 119 Washington Street on the Square or at either local bank.

T-shirts will be delivered in advance of the event so supporters can promote it by wearing the shirts.

There are 18 confirmed activity booths for this year, with different groups and civic organizations sponsoring each booth.

Each child, or adult, that visits can buy tickets to take part in the activities or buy a hot dog, hamburger, or bottle of water. In addition, tickets can be used for a Chance to Win various items ranging from a gift basket to a Kindle. A silent auction will be held for a Dr. Seuss themed painting by local artist Jeanne Trammell.
