Be Thankful, Be Informed
Being that Tuesday was election day, here in the United States of American it begins a season of being Thankful.
Some may be thankful that the election is over, well almost, and those who’s outcome was positive may still gloat a bit, and those who lost may bow out gracefully or be harsh.
Either way, the commercials will stop, hopefully the Facebook posts that rant and rave either for or against will cease, as most of our opinions matter more to us personally than to the rest of the world.
In November it is good to be thankful. Some of my friends have taken each day to give thanks for the fortunate parts of our lives.
I am thankful for the election. That it generated revenue to pay my paycheck, encouraged people to give back and to vote for what or who they believe in.
I am also thankful for my job. Some days you wouldn’t think so, as the stress gets to me with the deadlines.
One part of my job that has been on my mind recently is that of city and county meetings of our elected leaders. I attend both Board of Education meetings and City of Monticello council meetings and report on those for you, the readers of The Monticello News.
I try to report as an unbiased source, but since moving into the city, I have a bit to be biased about, however I try to keep it out of my writings.
I admit, I was a bit naive as to what all of the commotion was about at these meetings until I begin to cover them.
I believe that the people of the city should make it a point to be more informed and to attend these meetings should they get a chance. There will be new county board members, all but one, and some of the city leaders face election as soon as this time next year.
I encourage you as an individual to get out on the second Tuesday of any month and attend a City Council meeting to see how they work.
Part of making informed decisions is being informed. One way to be informed is to attend meetings and to see if your council person represents you to your standards.
Be thankful, be informed.
