Fourth of July Concert Set

The Monticello Community Band and Choir will perform a free concert on Independence Day, Saturday, July 4, on the lawn at 319 College Street across from the football field.

Guests are urged to bring a dinner picnic, compete in the “patriotic table decorating” contest, and enjoy games and friends on the lawn of the historic school at 6 p.m. As a benefit for the band and choir, tea and soda will be sold along with homemade desserts.

Styled on a USO concert, the band will perform Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever, Armed Forces Marches and a trombone quartet will perform Ride of the Valkyries. The choir will also sing American Anthem, and John DeGarmo will sing God Bless America.

The more than 20 local band musicians include Mary Camp, organist and former JCHS French teacher, and Lisa Kelly, Washington Park and JCPS music director, on flute; Kim Savage, Social Circle Elementary School music director, and Linda Jordan, surveyor and church pianist, on clarinet; Sierra Whitt, JCHS senior, on bass clarinet; Chris Savage, JCHS band director, Jimmy Jordan, former JCHS principal, Sandra Shockley, homemaker, Walt Rabon, JCHS sophomore, Amanda Martin, JCHS junior, and Courtney King, JCHS junior, on trumpet; Johnny Smith, former Piedmont Academy headmaster, on horn; Greg Holder, industrial designer, Ray Buck, JCMS band director, Erin Patterson, dog groomer and Phillips Workman, JCHS junior, on trombone; Ben Patrick, JCHS junior, on baritone; Bre Herrington, JCHS senior, on tuba; Matthew Benton, JCHS junior, Sam Benton, musician, Stone Workman, consultant, and Tyson Harty, JCHS science
teacher, on percussion; and Jehan El-Jourbagy, lawyer with Haygood Lynch Harris Melton Watson & El-Jourbagy, LLP, as conductor.
