Pink Ladies Donate Funds to JMH

The Jasper County Pink Ladies Auxiliary recently donated funds to Jasper Memorial Hospital for the purchase of a traction device needed for the physical therapy unit – so learned Jasper Health Services, Inc. members during last week’s monthly meeting.

The $2,017 purchase was given approval by board members, who expressed appreciation to the auxiliary club for its provision of funds. donation.

While approving a sole capital expenditure, the board reviewed, revised, and approved the medical staff by-laws. Administrator David Owens also presented the board with a preliminary management plan tracking log to be reviewed prior to the May meeting.

In other business, Oconee Regional Medical Center (ORMC) chief executive officer Brian Riddle informed board members that the Jasper County Commission’s request for an ORMC 2005 audit report had been denied by his board of directors. He said that there was an obvious mistrust on both parties behalf.

Mr. Riddle also said that there were concerns expressed about the pertinence of an ORMC audit to the the local commission and furthermore fulfilling that request would not answer the questions to which the commission was seeking answers about Jasper Memorial.

In administrative reports, Mr. Owens reported that organizational meetings for a Friends of the Hospital groups were continuing; working on a proposal for an x-ray unit; and weekly MRI scans are continuing.

In physician news, contract discussions are still in progress for recruit Dr. Leigh Thompson. Dr. Brad Mathias will no longer conduct a bi-weekly clinic at Primary Care Center because of low turnout. However, obstetrician Dr. Marisol San Incencio may return to PCC for a biweekly rotation.

Retreat administrator Donna Holman reported that the facility’s census was 98 percent with one vacancy. In personnel, two certified nursing assistants were hired with three shift vacancies remaining. Mrs. Holman announced that Nursing Home Week is scheduled for May 14-20 during which a staff luncheon is planned.

Financially, the nursing home earned a $5,000 March profit with a $8,000 year-to-date loss.
In PCC news, Dr. Wanes Barsemian’s last day was announced as June 2. The clinic is in need of updating its hematology equipment lease.
Christy Brooks attended her first board meeting as nursing director.

Board members discussed some problematic issues relative to the new Medicare B plan which appears not to be as beneficial as the original plan. A public relations campaign to make the community aware of these issues was discussed.

Board members entered into executive session to discuss physician credentials, personnel issues, legal issues and the evaluation of the chief executive officer.
