JMH Records Profit For 2005
A $337,000 profit was reported for Jasper Memorial Hospital as a result of the official 2005 audit report presented to Jasper Health Services, Inc. board members on Monday.
John Wendling of Wendling, Noe & Nelson Johnson, LLC presented the numbers with the assistance of Jean Aycock, Chief Financial Officer for Oconee Regional Medical Center.
This is the second consecutive year the facility has recorded a profit on paper. The 2005 figure is $398,000 less than the 2004 profit of $735,000, as reflected by the audit report.
Total expenses for the current year were $8,667,000 which included salary and wages, employee benefits, contract labor, supplies, professional fees, purchased services, insurance, utilities and bad debt. Fixed operating expenses (depreciation and interest) were calculated at $195,000.

Total operating revenue reported was $9,199,000, a figure derived from $10,028,000 reported from patient services minus $1,467,000 in deductions.
February finances included $644,000 in operating revenues for JMH and the Retreat. That figure includes $843,000 from patient revenues, $50,000 from additional revenues and a deduction of $249,000.
The hospital recorded a $2,000 profit whereas the nursing home loss $9,000 for the month. Year-to-date figures reflect a $63,000 profit for JMH and a $13,000 loss for the Retreat.
JMH patient visits last month totaled 821.
While finances dominated the agenda Monday, administrative reports were provided from David Owens of JMH, Donna Holman of the Retreat, and Jan Gaston of Primary Care Center.
Mr. Owen’s report included that meetings were continuing to form a Friends of the Hospital group; implementation of MRI services was scheduled to start this week; installation of new heating and air system was complete; researched panic alarm systems; made recruitment visit with Dr. Leigh Ann Thompson and continued discussions with Dr. Brad Mathias on PCC rotations.
Mrs. Holman reported that Christy Brooks had been promoted to chief nursing officer, replacing Nancy Taylor, and Alison Hill was promoted to assistant director of nursing; Ms. Hill and Mrs. Holman recently attended a clinical training session; and food service manager Betty Thurman attended the annual food service training by Sysco Foods.
Mrs. Gaston’s report included a Blue Cross Blue Shield telemedicine update as well as marketing and medicare plans.
No action was taken and an executive session on personnel was conducted.
