Most Taxes Are Collected on Time
With about 84 percent of county property taxes paid before last Wednesday’s deadline, collections are going very well, according to Tax Commissioner Merry Faulkner.
Some $5.6 million of the $6.8 million due was paid on time, Mrs. Faulkner said. Interest will be added to those paid after the Jan. 8 deadline, and penalties will be tacked on 90 days after that date.
However, taxpayers who have appealed their assessments and received a favorable judgment are exempt from penalties and interest.
Uncollected taxes include some that haven’t been paid pending appeals dating back to 2001, Mrs. Faulkner said.
