NEGRC Names New Officers

Bruce Henry, Shane Short, Dodd Ferrelle

The Council of the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission has selected Shane Short of Walton County to serve as the next NEGRC Council Chair.

Short will be replacing John Daniell (Chairman, Oconee County), whose term as NEGRC Council Chair ends June 30. The Council has also chosen Dodd Ferrelle (Mayor, City of Winterville) to serve as incoming Vice-Chair and Bruce Henry (Chairman, Jasper County) as Secretary. The new officers will serve two-year terms starting July 1.

In recognition of his outstanding leadership and commitment to the regional organization, Chairman Daniell received the 2025 “Chairman’s Award” during the Council’s June meeting.

The Northeast Georgia Regional Commission serves the 12-county Northeast Georgia Region, which includes Athens-Clarke, Barrow, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Jasper, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Walton counties and the 54 municipalities within them.

The NEGRC offers planning and government services assistance directly to those local governments while also serving as the region’s Area Agency on Aging and WorkSource Northeast Georgia.

The NEGRC Council oversees the organization’s policies, programs, and budget. Membership consists of public and private representation from each of the region’s 12 counties as well as State-appointed members.
