Officials To Discuss ‘Transportation Nightmare’

Representatives of several government agencies will huddle later this month to try to deal with what is being described as a traffic nightmare as students arrive and depart at schools on Hwy. 212 West.

The problem was exemplified earlier this month when a parent was injured in a traffic accident as she was leaving the primary school. That prompted the Monticello City Council, which has discussed the problem on other occasions, to ask city manager Walter Smith to confer with agencies concerned.

Mr. Smith has asked those concerned to meet at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the City Government Complex.
Those invited include school superintendent Jay Brinson, Piedmont Academy Headmaster Johnny N. Smith, Sheriff Charles Roper, Monticello Police Chief Dan Norris, Emergency Services Director Ed Westbrook and county administrator Phil Peevy. A representative of the state Department of

Transportation also is expected, Mr. Smith said.
