Piedmont Presents Awards

Piedmont Academy held its Honors Day ceremony for junior high and high school on Tuesday, May 9. The ceremony began with a video presentation designed by the publications class entitled “Changes.”

Headmaster Chip Champion welcomed everyone and Drayton Ballard led the pledge of allegiance to the American flag followed by an invocation.

The first awards presented by Mr. Champion were the Kiwanis Talent Show recipients, Micah Tyler, Will Eckerle, Meg Eckerle, Angelia Brown, and Megan Hammonds followed by recognition of the junior high “Math Counts” team.

Band director, Ralph Hickman, recognized Allison Hirsch for being selected to the GISA All-Select Band and he noted she had received this award all four years of high school. Mandy Powell, chorus director, recognized the four high school students selected to the GISA All-Select Chorus: Micah Tyler, Lance Richardson, Martha Powell and Bryn McDermott.

Beta Club advisor Bobbi Sauls, recognized the school’s new Beta Club members. Kenny Roberts introduced the 13 candidates to Piedmont Academy’s charter class of the National Honor Society.

Mr. Champion recognized Piedmont’s Star Student, Brittany Binowski, and her Star Teacher, Mrs. Charlotte Crawley, whom she felt had the most influence on her high school success.

Candidates for Yearly Perfect Attendance were recognized by Mr. Champion. High school students included B.J. Benjamin, Justin Freeman, Will Eckerle, Justin Brown, Gree Roberts, Priscilla Jones, Josh Stevenson, Tamara Sessums, Tony Deleza, Christopher Hornibrook, Ivey Nelson, and Samantha Hallman.

Miss Hallman was given a special award for perfect attendance during her entire school career spanning kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Junior high school students who are perfect attendance candidates for the school year include Daniel Leinweber, Mateson Slaughter, Meg Eckerle, Amanda Jackson, Katie Dimsdale, Carter Greeson, Luke Harvey, Matthew Sessions, Randi Small, and Justin Wilson.

High school candidates for the yearly Honor Roll included Will Eckerle, Tony Deleza, Zac Hauther, Ashlan Troutman, Mary Beth O’Brien, Randy Reagin, Drayton Ballard, Logan Gramzinski, Bryn McDermott and Samantha Hallman.

Junior high candidates include Jacob Wright, Courtney Kerbow, Dalton Perkins, Paige Atkins, Lauren Mitchell, Wyley Deleza, Amanda Hauther, and Bailey Dobbs.

High school candidates for the yearly Headmaster’s List were recognized and included Kelly King, Taylor Jackson, Emily Beckham, Sarah Wagnon, and Blake McMichael. Candidates for junior high included Briana Bailey, Davis Kimball, Blake Kitchens, Meg Eckerle, Amanda Jackson, Randi Small, and Buddy Morrison.

Yearly Special Distinction candidates for high school include Justin Brown, Nicole Wilson, and Brittany Binowski. Junior high students include Matthew O’Brien, Carter Greeson and Trevor Wilson.
Ralph Hickman presented pins to the following students who scored the highest grade on the American Mathematics Competition 10 test.

Kelly King scored the overall highest on the AMC10 test. Scoring third was Taylor Jackson Justin Brown was second, and Nicole Wilson was first. Juniors scoring the highest on the American Mathematics Competition 12 test included Joey Schroeder and Lance Richardson placing third, Brandon Landreau placing second, and Randy Reagin placing first.

Susan Jackson recognized the yearbook staff and thanked them for their work on this year’s “Retrospect.” The staff includes Brittany Binowski, Ivey Nelson, Randy Reagin, Ashton Sanders, Donovon Buchannan, Martha Powell, Jake Landress, Lance Richardson, Whit Morgan, and Brandon Landreau. This year’s yearbook is being dedicated to Mrs. Charlotte Crawley. The publications award was presented to Brittany Binowski.

Outstanding student subject awards for high school were presented by faculty members Charlotte Crawley, Bobbi Sauls, Ralph Hickman, Elizabeth Davis, Susan Jackson, Kathy Whitworth and Mandy Powell.
The following high school students were honored: Kelly King, 9th grade English I, algebra I, civics, biology, and computer applications; Josh Stevenson, 9th grade English I; Sarah Wagnon, 10th grade world history, chemistry, and English II; Nicole Wilson, 10th grade world history, geometry, chemistry, English II, and Spanish I; Justin Brown 10th grade geometry, chemistry, Spanish I, and business math.
Also, Zac Hauther, 11th grade anatomy; Ivey Nelson, 11th grade algebra II; Blake McMichael, 11th grade algebra II, American History, English III, and Spanish II; Andrew Stevenson, 11th grade algebra II and Spanish II; Samantha Hallman, 12th grade statistics and anatomy; Brittany Binowski, 12th grade advanced placement government, anatomy, advanced placement English, and publications; Logan Gramzinski, 12th grade debate; and Allison Hirsch, accounting.

Also, Trevor Wilson, 8th grade physical science, math and American history; Buddy Morrison, 8th grade language arts; Matthew Sessions, 8th grade physical science and language arts; Amanda Hauther, 8th grade English; Randi Small, 8th grade English and junior high chorus; Carter Greeson, 8th grade American History.

The top academic awards with highest overall average for the school year in junior high school were 6th grade students Davis Kimball and Briana Bailey; 7th grade student Matthew O’Brien; and 8th grade student Trevor Wilson.
