Superintendent Survey Is Online
In their search for the next school system superintendent, the Jasper County Board of Education posted a survey (Jasper County Superintendent Qualifications Community Survey) on the school system website,
The link to the survey appears on the home page and is flagged by a spinning red oval with the word “NEW” on it.
The survey presents eight questions polling the qualifications desired in a superintendent.
On the first five questions, survey takers have the choice of selecting whether a particular qualification is a) mandatory, b) important but not mandatory, or c) not considered very important.
These questions are: “Is it important that your next superintendent have a terminal degree such as a Ph.D., Ed.D., etc.?”; “. . . have previous experience as a superintendent?”; “. . . have previous experience as a principal?”; “. . . have previous experience as a classroom teacher?”; and “. . . have previous experience in private business?”

Question six goes as follows and offers five choices:
In which of the following areas do you believe our new superintendent should have a documented history of leadership? Select the two most important of the following: a) in community organizations and other community affairs, b) in professional organizations, c) through publications and other written communications, d) through public speaking and other oral communications, e) other, please specify. The final choice gives the survey-taker a opportunity to add an area of said qualification.
In question seven, several areas of special expertise are given of which a surveyor may select, as many he or she believes should apply. These areas include: administration, personnel, curriculum, school law, technology, facilities, budgets, and other (which also allows personalized feedback).
The final question asks, “What other considerations or qualifications do you view as crucial in the selection of the superintendent?”
A comment box below this question is given for further comments and concerns.
All in all, the community survey can be used as vital resource for the school board in its search for superintendent candidates; it will further allow their decisions to properly reflect the voices of their constituents.
