Extension Office Is Busy

It seems that the temperatures are starting to drop slightly and the days are getting shorter. With fall, come several events for the Jasper County Extension office.

Jasper County 4-H’ers are getting livestock projects and other demonstrations ready for several fairs this fall. Fair season will culminate with the Georgia National Fair in Perry, October 4-14. Members of the 4-H Livestock Show Team will be showing dairy heifers, beef cattle, and market lambs in Perry, at the Gwinnett County Fair and at other shows this fall.

Please plan on coming out and supporting these young people whenever you get a chance. The show team will meet next Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Extension office; if you have a child who is interested in participating then plan on attending this meeting.

The Piedmont Cattlemen’s Association will hold its annual benefit auction at the FFA/FCCLA Camp in Covington on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. The proceeds from this auction go to help 4-H and FFA youth programs in Jasper, Newton, and Butts Counties.

The proceeds also fund college scholarships for our young people.

The Morgan County Cattlemen’s Association will hold its next meeting on Monday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. at Bonner’s Restaurant in Buckhead. A steak dinner will be served and potential members are always welcome!

Mark your calendars for a Timber Management Field Day on September 25.. This field day will cover pine stand management and future timber prices. Details to follow soon! Contact the Jasper County Extension office for more details.

A Reproductive Management Workshop for Cattle will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monticello/ Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. The workshop will review synchronization protocols for beef and dairy heifers, artificial insemination techniques, and basic anatomy.
