Sac-O-Suds Re-Opens

The Sac-O-Suds, the little convenience store which was made famous in the 1992 movie, My Cousin Vinny, is scheduled to re-open its doors tomorrow, Jan. 24, after being closed and sinking into disrepair several years ago.
Everyone in Jasper County, and many points beyond remember the little store on Hwy 16, at the Ocmulgee River Bridge, which was the setting where the two “youtes” stole a can of tuna fish and were arrested and tried for murder in the movie staring Joe Pesci, and Marisa Tomei, who won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor.
Memorabilia from the movie will adorn the inside of the store including a copy of the manuscript for the movie signed by all the actors, a poster of Mr. Pesci and Ms. Tomei posing in the old courtroom of the Jasper County Court House, where much of the movie was set, and other items of interest.
The Terrill Hoover family are the proud owners of the legendary and newly renovated store, which presents a very pleasing facade compared to the original store that opened in the early 1950s, then closed several years ago and sank into disrepair. The renovation of the outside and inside, including new fixtures, began in August of 2012.
The store hours will be seven days a week from 6 a.m. through 9 p.m., and will include breakfast, lunch and dinner hot and cold food items, and the much desired Sac-O-Suds BBQ sandwich. It will also offer all the convenience store items, plus a hunting and fishing area known as the man-cave, and a gift item area and much more.
The family reports that beer will still be for sale on Sundays, and they will offer their own label of cans of Sac-O-Suds Tuna Fish, and that they look forward to being a part of the community and contributing to it. They also announced future plans to add gasoline sales, an outside produce market and a rafting and tubing service on the river, and an everyday policy of free coffee to any public servant in uniform.
