Cash Prizes Offered for Deer Festival Floats

Float entries are being sought for the 49th annual Deer Festival to be held Saturday, Nov. 7. This year, the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce is offering cash prizes for the best floats. First place float gets $200; second place gets $100, and third place collects $50.

Floats will be judged on five criteria—theme, craftsmanship, animation and special effects, presentation, originality, and public appeal.

The COC is hoping that the cash prizes will encourage every civic group, school club, business, and others to enter a float in the parade. This year’s parade promises to be better than ever, as there is a battle of the high school bands, and the bands are going to join the parade, so there will be more than one band in the parade.

Floats should have a theme of Deer Festival, and will get extra points for animation and special effects, as well as for all categories. Applications are available at the COC office in the Visitors’ Center on the Square, and will be available online soon.
