‘Pray, Trust and Serve’ An Appeal for Hurricane Florence Relief Support

Proverbs 3:5

This month’s Fresh Word of the Day is very personal. As you know, I Pastor here in Fayetteville, N.C. At the time of this article, we are experiencing devastation because of a storm named Florence.

Now, Florence started as a major Hurricane in the Atlantic and eventually downgraded all the way to a Tropical Depression, but furiously dumped almost 34 inches of rain here in four days! The rain has subsided, the winds have died down, but the imminent threat of catastrophic flooding is staring us in the face. A lot of flooding has already materialized in Lumberton and places “down east.” But the worst is still yet to come.

One of my churches sits about 250 yards from the mighty Cape Fear River. It is expected to crest at 62 feet, bringing its waters very close to our church’s steps. But, amid it all I’m determined to encourage everyone to pray, trust and serve.

Monticello PLEASE keep praying for our area. We need you to call on God for protection, preservation of life and his power to be magnified. Please pray that the flood waters recede rapidly, lives are saved and homes are restored.

Secondly, trust in the God who never fails. We aren’t trying to trace or understand God’s move in this, but we are trusting him. The Word of God says, “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all of your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path.” The only thing Gods asks of us is that we trust him no matter what.

Finally, I’m calling on my hometown to step up and serve when the time affords itself. Serving sees no color and breaks down all barriers. We will need so many things to recover from this disaster, but the truth is…we will recover. We are a resilient military town with a warrior spirit. But the love and warmth of Monticello can surely aid us in the recovery.

If you would like to assist in our recovery, contact me directly at freshwordfc@gmail.com.

PRAYER OF THE DAY:

“Dear Lord, we pray unto you, knowing that you have all power. When you speak, the wind, waves and water are obedient. Please continue to cover North and South Carolina and lead to a full recovery. Use the kind and loving people of Jasper County, Georgia to bless others in this season. We’re not shaken by the punch of Florence because we still believe in the power of the Father.

In Jesus’ Name…we recover together..and Amen!”
