A Transformed Mind
Romans 12:2
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect” (NLT)
Religiously doing something with no purpose is the bedrock of insanity. When I was young and growing up in church over in Shady Dale, I’d hear the song pose the question, “Have you got good religion?” The melodic reply in the chant was “yes, yes….and the world can’t do me no harm.”
I know this is going to really rub sore those who hang their hats on the hook of religious traditions. Those who go to church with no destiny in view and no real purpose driving them to accomplish anything special might be offended.
But let me be clear, if your position is that you don’t want to offend the world and just want good religion, then you are living with a conformed persona and not with a transformed mind. Transformation is possible and needed even in Jasper County.
When you have a desire to go deeper in God, it will take effort to be transformed. There are at least four requirements I want to offer in this week’s article to help get us there.
First, we must read God’s Word repetitiously. Many of you reading this have a habit you just can’t kick. Some of you smoke, some of you occasionally drink, some of you gossip, some of you play the lottery…and the list goes on.
Why don’t you develop some good habits with reading God’s Word being the first? Stop just opening your bible on Sunday and then closing it to collect dust until you go back to church again.
Second, it takes concentration to be transformed. Get rid of the clutter in your mind. Shut down social media, turn off the television, and remove all distractions and study.
Third, we must seek comprehension. If you studied but don’t understand, then what good did reading it do? Make sure you get a good understanding because God’s Word says in all of our getting we must get understanding.
Finally, in order to live transformed and graduate from mundane mediocrity, we must have moments of reflection. Never read God’s word with a scope aimed at someone else. Allow his surgical tools of conviction to correct YOU and make YOU better.
Want to see Monticello change for the better? Let God start in YOU. Want to see your family better? Let God start in YOU. Want to actually get something out of the Sunday worship, learn how to love even your enemies, attract people with a pleasant attitude even when things are hard? Let God start in YOU. Stop seeking religion and develop a relationship with God…..today.
PRAYER OF THE DAY:
“Dear Lord take my life and mold it. Take my mind, and transform it. Take my will and conform it……to yours. Brokenness, Holiness and Righteousness is what I long for and it starts in my mind. I turn my attention to you, remove every distraction and I accept your will for my life. Thank you Lord for introducing me to a season called BETTER.
In Jesus’ Name…Amen!”
