A Fresh Word in a Frightening Time
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the Lord….”
COVID-19, coronavirus, “Rona”…has impacted our world. Life as we once knew it has been altered completely. Social distancing is now the new normal. Who would have ever fathomed the demand for hand sanitizer, Lysol, bleach, toilet paper, Lysol wipes or even rubbing alcohol would be so high? A highly contagious virus, with no cure and no vaccine has turned our world upside down. But wait on the Lord.
Political turmoil and sickening divisiveness has struck us to the core as a nation. A simple opinion with no political intent is easily flipped into something Democrat (left) or Republican (right). Social media has empowered people we don’t even know to speak to us through the strokes of the keyboard as if they have the right to say what they will…how they will.
In spite of the divided political environment, this is still the greatest nation on the planet. I fought in this nation’s military; I appreciate its values and the rights we have under ONE Constitution.
May she forever be free and brave. Keep waiting on the Lord!
Monticello still isn’t perfect. It has never been a perfect city and never will be. Many still want to see it remain small. Others want to see it grow with no true definition of “growth.” Yet, I still love that place where four major state roads connect. I love that place where the Purple Hurricanes play and UGA fans discover during the Fall. Not only do I love Monticello, but I cherish Jasper County. Shady Dale, Hillsboro, Farrar, Frog Town, Blue, “The Hill,” Turtle Cove and every other pocket of Jasper, I love you. Every unincorporated town, every neighborhood, every spot and angle of it, I love you.
I’m a proud product of Jasper. I hail from “5 Mile Road” (which most of you know as Perimeter Road). But just like there is uncertainty there, there is uncertainty here in North Carolina. But if we all wait on the Lord, He will strengthen us and restore us. He will make things better.
It’s with a sad heart, but glad appreciation that I bid you farewell. This is my final Fresh Word of the Day in The Monticello News. I am eternally grateful to Kathy Mudd and her staff for allowing this opportunity to share positivity, and for keeping the Monticello News going in town. There is absolutely NO place like home.
Prayer of the Day:
“Dear Lord, watch between us while we are absent from one another. Dry up this virus, deliver your people, drive us closer to you and point us to our destiny. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
