Tips for Growing Plants Indoors

If you’re an avid outdoor planter looking to keep your green thumb alive as the seasons change to colder, less plant-friendly weather, consider moving your plant hobby indoors. Plants can be great for interior design and are known mood-boosters as well.
Here are a few tips for growing plants indoors.
Plants Love Light
Plants need light to survive, and most often, they want to absorb as much light as possible. Even plants deemed as “low-light” plants will need some light, too.
When acquiring plants for your space, consider the light you have available. If possible, position your plants in a space where they will get plenty of natural light. However, some low-light plants will be just fine with the light exposure of incandescent or LED lights in your home.
Don’t Overwater
Indoor plants do not typically need as much water as an outdoor plant in the heat would. Overwatering your plant can result in killing the plant as the air spaces in the soil end up saturated in water.
Conversely, do not forget to water your plant when necessary. The soil should be dry at least two inches into the soil if it needs water; otherwise, skip watering for the day.
Keep Them in One Spot
Sudden changes in environment can cause your plant’s leaves to droop and healthy buds to drop on flowering plants. It can also increase their susceptibility to diseases. For these reasons, it is best to keep your plants in one spot rather than constantly rearranging them throughout your home.
Create Humidity
Plants rely on humidity, as dryness can wick away water sources, meaning that you’ll have to water your plant quite often. To combat the dry, cool air in our homes during colder months that can damage plant water intake, add a humidifier near your plants or group plants together for more humidity.
Keeping plants indoors can be a great hobby for avid or new gardeners alike. These tips for growing plants indoors, including giving them lots of light, avoiding overwatering, finding one spot to keep them, and creating humid spaces, are essential for growing healthy plants indoors, especially in the winter.
