Youngster Briggs Ledford Continues Family Tradition
“God is SO good!” says Marty Fuller, as he talks about taking his grandson hunting. He shares what it was like:
“Saturday morning, October 24, Briggs Ledford killed his first buck, a nine-pointer, with the same gun, from the same spot as Uncle Nathan (right, with daughter, Carolina) and I!
“Three generations now and blessed again by our creator with sweet, lifetime memories! “I found this place in 1993 and as it turned out it is a perennial buck spot. This year Briggs was really interested, initiating wanting to hunt deer, (which I am grateful for.) I have always believed, supported and lived supporting their interest level wherever that may be in whatever it may be.”
“It was clear this year Briggs really wanted to hunt and I adjusted my efforts accordingly: scouting, patterning, putting up a ground blind under the tree stand I built in 1993 for Nathan. Multiple mature bucks using the area, three bigger than his. Working for months on shooting skills to the point of true confidence (an important part is we owe quick, humane kills to all game), reading sign, food sources, etc.
“Saturday a.m. was our second hunt at this place when his deer showed up. I quizzed him, you want this one or wait on one of the bigger ones, his choice is clear now and that is totally fine. It is about him, not me! Perfect 30 yard shot, running 30 yards and dropping! One happy fellow! He repeated the replay of those moments to me all day till bedtime.
“If I never take another deer I have been blessed with success personally, and teaching all of my children how to be true hunters, sportsmen. I know they are capable on their own now, (Caroline is next IF interested)! Thank you God for blessings bestowed!! The memory flashback Saturday morning of Nathan’s and now Briggs…………speechless!”
Scenarios such as this have been repeated throughout the county, and elsewhere, this deer season as there have been lots of successful hunters. Many have sent their photos to The News to for publication. We plan to run them as soon as possible.
We would like to run them all together in color, and are seeking sponsors. If you or your business would be interested in sponsoring a photo page of successful hunters, please call The News office, 706-468-6511.
