Community Band Plans Christmas Concert on Friday, December 3

The Monticello Community Band will perform in the main courtroom of the Jasper County Courthouse on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.

The theme of the concert is Home for the Holidays. After a forced hiatus due to the pandemic, the band is returning to serve the community with three concerts a year.

The evening will include over 20 musicians, including students and adults, familiar holiday music, and stories of favorite holiday-time traditions.

“We are so excited to be playing together again, and we look forward to returning to the courthouse for a festive, holiday concert,” said Jehan El-Jourbagy, the band’s executive director. She will also serve as the conductor for this concert.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite and at the door for $10/ticket. All proceeds support band expenses and scholarships to select graduating seniors who rehearsed and performed with the band for at least five concerts.

The band also relies on Friends of the Band, community donors who sponsor musician chairs. Anyone who is interested in joining or in donating (for instance, chair sponsorships are $25), please reach out to a band member, the executive director or visit Monticello Community Band on Facebook.
