The Greatest Gift Is Performed
Monticello Baptist Church hosted a Christmas Pageant, “The Greatest Gift,” on December 10-11.
The pageant was open for children in kindergarten through fifth grades to participate; they began practicing in mid-October. In the pageant, the children told the story of Christmas and the birth of Jesus.
The children used their pageant as a means to fund raise for Samaritan’s Purse Bee Project. The Bee Project provides honeybees and the necessary equipment to subsistence farmers around the world, including Iraq, Honduras and Liberia. While providing these resources, missionaries are able to talk to families about Jesus.
Samaritan’s Purse can support one family in this endeavor for $20. The children set a goal of raising $400 and supporting 20 families. The children exceeded their goal and raised $2725.79. The money raised will provide 136 families with honeybees and the supplies to raise them.
Participants included Brynley Bennett, Eden Houston, Caleb Riexinger, Renny Burton, Lula Burton, Liam Steenhoek, Callie Harrison, Jessica Mofield, Brenna Bennett, Jacob Gower, Wesley Garvin, August Steenhoek, Nic Phillips, Kory Burton, Izzy Phillips, Mackenzie Phillips, Luca Artessa, Braylen Layton, Lucas Evans, Rhett Born, and Preston Dean.
The pageant was directed by Bonnie Garvin and accompanied by Johna Artessa. In addition, Angie Bennett, Kristy Burton, Jackie Pate, and Ella Artessa helped with costumes, meals, and miscellaneous things at practices. Russell Bennett designed and built the set.
