Qualifying for Monticello City Council Starts Monday

Election time is approaching for City Council in Monticello. The general election for the City of Monticello will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Three seats will be open for election this coming time around. District 1 Post 2 Council Member Cynthia Miller, District 2 Post 2 Council Member Jenny Murphy, and Mayor Pro Tem Doug Currie will all be up for re-election as incumbents.

Anyone who wishes to qualify for a seat in the upcoming election can do so starting Monday, August 21. The qualifying period will end at noon on Thursday, August 24. All qualifiers must submit proper paperwork at the City Clerk’s office in City Hall at 123 W. Washington St.

Qualifying fee costs for council members will be $162, while the qualifying fee for mayor pro tem is $216.

The last day to register and be eligible to vote will be October 10. Polls will be open on election day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If a runoff is deemed necessary, the runoff election will take place on December 5.
