Citizen/Business Nominees Are Listed
Each year, the Business and Citizen of the Year contest is hosted by the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. The deadline for nominations was December 31. Eleven citizens and three businesses were nominated for these awards.
The COC has provided a synopsis of each nomination. The winners will be announced at the COC annual dinner on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.
Judy Yielding State Farm is an outstanding nominee for Business of the Year, proudly celebrating 45 years of dedicated service to the Jasper County Community. Ashley Henderson is an outstanding nominee for Citizen of the Year, recognized for his impactful leadership as the Head Football Coach for Jasper County Charter System. With a passion for developing young athletes both on and off the field, “Coach Hen” has cultivated a strong sense of teamwork, discipline, and resilience among his players. His commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive culture has not only led the team to numerous successes but has also instilled valuable life lessons in his athletes. Beyond his coaching duties, Ashley actively engages with the community, promoting sportsmanship and encouraging youth participation in athletics. His dedication to shaping the future of Jasper County’s youth, coupled with his unwavering support for his team, makes him a true champion of community spirit and an inspiring role model.
Jason and Cheryl Parr are exemplary nominees for Citizen of the Year, celebrated by their profound impact on the Monticello/Jasper County Community as founders of the Church of Monticello and the Jasper County Community Food Bank as well as owners of The Thrift Store. Through their unwavering dedication and compassion, they have tirelessly worked to address food insecurity and provide vital support to families in need. Their efforts in establishing the food bank have ensured countless residents have nutritious meals, while The Thrift Store serves as a resource for affordable goods, further benefiting the community. Jason and Cheryl’s commitment to service, community engagement, and uplifting those around them truly embodies the essence of leadership and compassion, making them deserving of this recognition.
