The Monticello – Jasper County Chamber of Commerce (COC) initiated the new year with our annual meeting at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Conference Center. The incoming 2016 Board was sworn and our new annual planning season began with a “Board Retreat” facilitated with great skill by Pat Merritt of Georgia EMC.

While no decisions or votes were conducted and no actual COC business was discussed, a good deal of effort went into developing new ideas and setting goals for the near (2016) term and medium (2017-2020) term future. Obviously, staples such as our popular “Market on the Square” and the 50th Anniversary Deer Festival” are major programs for 2016.

A program we will continue to develop is the “Forward Jasper” Strategic Plan. This effort began in 2012 by a citizens’ committee with ongoing development through the succeeding years. It is a major project for the COC and the community. Cooperation from the membership and the representative agencies is critical to our success going forward.

However, nothing will be accomplished without community support. There is always the need for interested individuals and entities to come to the table with ideas, recommendations and critiques.

Please watch the Chamber web page (www.jaspercountycoc.com), Facebook Page (Monticello – Jasper County Chamber of Commerce), and the Chamber newsletter for ongoing postings, reviews, updates and draft plans added to keep all citizens informed of the efforts. To ensure you are current on our activities you can sign up to receive our newsletter with the Chamber Office at 706-468-8994 or jasperchamber@bellsouth.net.

And come to volunteer your most valuable asset – your time.

“How do we volunteer?” some might ask.

Good question.

First, attend the COC sponsored and supported events such as the “First Friday Breakfast” held on the first Friday in March, June, September and December. Also, our monthly “Third Thursday Coffee Call” is a great time to network with the business folks, local officials and your neighbors. And try to attend some of the “Ribbon Cuttings” conducted as our new enterprises celebrate the opening of their businesses.

Second, attend the public Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce meetings conducted the second Thursday of the month in the City Council chambers at the Visitors’ Center.

And most important, Become A Volunteer! It is your COC. It’s your membership. Businesses. Individuals. Civic Organizations. Our management staff and the Board of Directors are simply honored to represent you in the conduct of the day-to-day operations.

Finally, are you, your business or organization, a member of the Monticello-Jasper Chamber of Commerce? If you are, thank you. If you are not, please ask yourselves “why not?” Come join the team. Discuss it with others who are members. I believe you will like what you see and that you will want to be part of the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce.
