The Jasper County 4-H Shotgun Team was represented by 33 outstanding shooters at the state modified trap event held recently at the UGA Beef Research Station property in Putnam County.

They first had to qualify as individuals at the district matches that they attended in Walton or Houston counties before advancing to the state contest.

At this match, the 4-H’ers compete as individuals and as part of their respective county teams in the Junior or Senior division. There were just over 930 participants from 65 counties there representing 4-H shotgun teams from all over the state.

The 11 who competed from Jasper’s Junior team (seventh and eighth graders) included Hank Allen, Brynley Bennett, Grayson Colvin, Lane Dunn, Justin English, John Goolsby, Nelson Hooberry, James Johnson, Briggs Ledford, Brantley Stacey, and Jameson West.

There were 22 Jasper Seniors (ninth – twelfth graders) who advanced to state. They included Gavin Brooks, Adam Brown, Dalton Busby, Dylan Claborn, Jaxson Cohran, Drake Conway, Coby Cook, Will Cook, Nathan Davis, Chase Dunn, Carter Ellison, Brayden Gray, Ben Haase, Levi Hood, Chase Horsley, Reid McMichael, Asher McQueen, Zachary Ramsey, Caden Shaw, Devin Thompson, Jayden Timberman, and McCrae Wilkins. They were accompanied by team coaches Brandon Bennett, Matt Busby, Tony Hood, Justin Hooper, Jeremy Johnson, Jeremy Horsley, Steven Ledford, and David Ramsey; 4-H Agent Kasey Hall; and their parents and family members.

Congratulations to the six Jasper Senior 4-H’ers who shot a perfect score with 25 clays: Levi Hood, Reid McMichael, Caden Shaw, Brayden Gray, McCrae Wilkins, and Carter Ellison! They were among 80 4-H’ers to accomplish this outstanding feat.

They then advanced to the Senior doubles shoot-off which served as the elimination round to determine the top three placings in the individuals contests. Levi advanced through the second round in a highly competitive field. Congratulations to our two top scoring Juniors Hank Allen and Nelson Hooberry who each shot a 24.
