Thank You To Our Law Enforcement
This week is National Police Week, a time when officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice are honored.
In 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed a bill designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Currently, thousands of law enforcement officers and family converge on Washington, D.C. to honor fallen heroes.
There is a Blue Mass held in St. Patrick’s church in downtown Washington. Among events during the week is a 5K run, a special ceremony to honor fallen K-9.
Each year fallen officers names are read aloud when they are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington. That evening there is a candlelight vigil.
Teams of Police Pipe Bands attend the event. There is a display of antique police vehicles, motorcycles and scooters held at the Reflective Pool. One evening there is a Blue Honor Gala, attendees must wear blue or black attire. There is also the Blue Family BBQ.

We thank our local police officers and pray for their safety.
