JCPS READING INITIATIVE

During the month of February, students at Jasper County Primary School took part in the Georgia Department of Education’s #LitLoveRead reading initiative. Classes tracked the books they read aloud by adding hearts to a graph outside their classrooms, creating a fun and visual way to celebrate reading! At the end of the month, each participating class received treats from our Georgia RESA Literacy Coach, Jane Belflower, and the class with the most books read was recognized. The competition was fierce, but Bennett and Mitchell’s kindergarten class took home the win for reading the most books throughout February. JCPS media specialist Kimberly Attaberry encouraged the staff to participate in this reading initiative and worked closely with the Resa literacy coach. Read-alouds are a fantastic way to strengthen literacy skills in the classroom, but the magic of reading shouldn’t stop there. Did you know that reading with your kids is one of the most powerful things you can do for their development? It helps build vocabulary, boosts concentration, and fosters creativity. Plus, it’s the perfect way to bond and create cherished memories.
