WPES Hosts Reading Competition

All classes at WPES started the Malcom Mitchell Read Bowl in January. This friendly competition let each student compete for his/her self, class, grade level, and school. Students recorded minutes of time they spent reading throughout the day including at home. The staff is proud of our students that competed. As a school, 250,000 minutes of reading were reported for the competition.

Fifth grade was the top grade level in the school. On Wednesday, Head Football Coach Ashley Henderson brought eight role model football players from the Hurricanes to have lunch with the fifth graders and to have a fun time throwing footballs and participating in football drills. The top 10 students in fifth grade readers were awarded with a special free field trip to the Georgia Safari in Madison. Those winners include Keeley Doublestein, Haley Daniel, Asher Smith, Vivian Mock, McKenna Price, Abby Bowen, Julianna Dominguez-Martin, Ava Turner, Ali Pair, and Brysen Arnold.

The top class in each grade level is “nacho” ordinary class. They won a special nacho treat during lunch. These classes were third grade in Mrs. Wilson’s, fourth grade in Mrs. Robert’s, and fifth grade in Mrs. McMichael’s.

The top reader in WPES for this activity was Keeley Doublestein. She won a $25 gift certificate to upcoming bookfairs as well as a football.
